Nurturing the Skills and Confidence to Succeed

BSP students are able to further their professional development through a variety of programs and activities. For instance, WTSN 101 is a one-credit course that helps participants in their transition from high school students to university scholars. Other activities prepare students to gain maximum benefits, knowledge and experiences that will serve them well later on.

These include:

  • group study sessions
  • seminars on relevant academicand professional topics
  • presentations by noted industryleaders
  • academic advising tailoredto students’ ambitions
  • internship and researchopportunities
  • stipends and achievement awards

The Watson School houses computer science and engineering majors, while science majors are housed in Harpur College of Arts and Science.

First-Year Responsibilities and Rewards

In addition to enrolling in and attending WTSN 101, you will be expected to:

  • meet with the BSP coordinator aminimum of three times during your first semester (beginning, mid-semester and end-of-semester)
  • take advantage of group study sessions
    and
  • attend at least four academic and professional development activities

Once you’ve fulfilled these responsibilities, you become eligible for book awards and end-of-semester academic achievement awards. BSP supports student chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE).
